CIU takes Skyhawks to the Wire

COLUMBIA, SC - The CIU men's soccer team hosted Point University on Saturday, as the team hoped to bounce back after a tough loss against Montreat College on Wednesday. Despite taking the Skyhawks to the wire, the Rams fell by a score of 3-2.

Saturday was also Senior Day for the team, as CIU honored its senior class before the game. The seniors honored were Dean Daniels, and Rahim Gordon

Key Plays
First Half

  • 42:06 PU found the back of the net early in the contest, scoring off a Arnau Hernandez goal.
  • 26:03 The Skyhawks scored their second goal of the night off a Darren Kavanagh goal, going up 2-0 on the Rams.
  • 5:06 Despite the early two score deficit, the Rams bounced back at the end of the half to draw within one of the Skyhawks. Rafael Carneiro provided a through ball to Rahim Gordon inside the 18-yard box. Gordon being one on one with the Point goalkeeper, shot it between his legs for CIU's first score of the night.

Second Half

  • 27:27 The Rams ended the first half with a score, and looked to draw even with PU. The Rams were able to equalize after Nathaniel Ruth crossed a pass into the box to Romulo Barreto, who scored from the PK spot to give CIU its tying goal.
  • 10:45 Despite CIU's momentous tying goal, PU pulled ahead with a chip from Martin Wainstein, who placed it just over the reach of CIU goalkeeper Hazel Ley.

Key Players

 CIU Forward - Rahim Gordon

  • Gordon finished the night with a score and three shots on goal.

CIU Defender - Juliano Magilo

  • Despite Maglios lack of presents on the stat sheet, the sophomore defender played a solid game, dropping in several lob passes to forwards, stretching the field. His defensive effort was also impactful, as he made some key stops early on and late in the game.
