Rams Challenged by Lions In Competitive Five Set Match
DAYTON, Tenn. – The CIU volleyball team started its weekend road trip Friday night as they traveled to Dayton, Tennessee to take on the Lions of Bryan College. The Rams entered the contest coming off of two consecutive wins, while the Lions went into the match with a 4-1 record fresh off a victory over Kentucky Christian. The Rams would take the first and third set, but were unable to hold back Bryan as the Lions roared back to force a fifth set and win the match 3-2.
How It Happened:
The Rams trailed early in set one 15-8, but stormed back to cut into the Lion lead and tie the set at 21-21. Moments later, sophomore
Megan Lung ended the set with a kill giving CIU the 25-23 win. Set two saw a complete performance from the Lions as they tied the match 1-1 after 25-10 set victory. The Lions led for much of the third game, but CIU would come up clutch when it mattered most. Tied 25-25 freshman
Kamelia De Jesus delivered with a service ace and then would set up
Megan Lung for the kill to give CIU a 27-25 win. The Rams seemingly had the match won in set four with a 23-21 advantage. However, the match would slip from their grasp as the Lions stole game four 25-23. The final set was back and forth with the set tied at 12-12 after an
Abbey Kleist kill. Unfortunately for CIU, the Lions would respond and take the set 15-13 to give them the match win.
