WEST POINT, Ga – Traveling south for their third game of the New Year, the CIU women's basketball team took the floor against the Skyhawks of Point University. The matchup was the first of the season between the two squads after Point defeated CIU at the end of the 2019 season. The evening's game would see a similar outcome as the Skyhawks knocked off the Rams 59-50.
How It Happened
1st Half PU 31 CIU 25: The first quarter would be highlighted by plenty of scoring from the Rams. CIU would outscore Point (19-15) in the quarter thanks to hot shooting from Hannah Trawick, who scored six points in the period. The Rams took a step back in quarter two but saw a spark in the form of Lakelyn Malovic, who scored four points off the bench. CIU would trail at the half 31-25.
2nd Half PU 59 CIU 50: The third quarter gave way to a 37-26 lead for the Skyhawks, but Jordan Sprueill would help trim the advantage down to just 44-38 going into the final period. Sprueill heated up in the third, scoring eight points to help CIU keep pace. Hannah Trawick would continue her solid shooting night to start the fourth, but Point would methodically build a 12-point lead 56-44, with just 3:12 remaining in the game. The Rams cut into the lead, but CIU would ultimately yield to the Skyhawks 59-50.
Game Notes
- Hannah Trawick continued her emergence as she put up double-figures for her third straight game posting 14 points on 6-8 shooting. The sophomore also added 6 rebounds to her stat line.
- Jordan Sprueill was a key factor to the Rams success scoring 10 points and recording 8 rebounds while also going a perfect 4 for 4 from the free-throw line.
- Britney Brown filled the box score with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
