Women's Basketball Challenged by Knights in Kentucky

Grayson, Ky – CIU women's basketball head to the commonwealth of Kentucky, Saturday afternoon, to challenge the Knights of Kentucky Christian University. The Rams played the first year Appalachian Athletic Conference program earlier in this season and were defeated 102-99 in double overtime. In the two teams' second meeting, CIU would struggle yet again and this time fall, 78-66.

How It Happened:

First Half KCU 43 CIU 28: The Rams kept the first quarter tight with scoring from six different players. Joy Jones and Britney Brown kept the Rams within one at the end of the quarter (21-20), with both players scoring six points in the period. Quarter two would prove to be a turning point in contest as Rams were outscored by the Knights 21-8. However, Keniah Watkins served as a bright spot for the Rams, scoring half her team's points during the troublesome second period.

Second Half KCU 78 CIU 66: The third quarter would see more scoring from both teams, but the Knights would be able to extend their lead on 65-42. Sophomore Hannah Trawick would continue her strong play of late and pull down the four rebounds and score six points during the quarter. Trawick would then help the Rams ignite a run late in the final period of the game to outscore the Knights 24-13 in the fourth. However, it would prove too little too late as the Rams fell 78-66.

Game Notes:

  • Center Hannah Trawick gave the Rams much needed offensive scoring in double figures for the second straight game posting 12 points. The Lexington native also battled hard on the glass pulling down 7 boards.
  • Joy Jones and Jordan Sprueill both had 9 points and 8 rebounds.
  • Larissa Lee was the second Ram in double-figures with 11 points.
  • CIU won the first, third, and fourth quarters by a combined score of 58-56 but were plagued by a slow start to the second period, which cost the Rams in the win column.
