Columbia, SC - The CIU Rams volleyball team took a break from the grind of the Appalachian Athletic Conference schedule and played two non-conference matches against the Hornets of Morris College. Morris is a fellow NAIA institution located only a short drive away in Sumter, South Carolina. The Rams played the Hornets three times during the 2018-2019 and would come out on top in all three matchups.
CIU would pick up where they left off against the Hornets and would win the first match 3-0 in dominating fashion. The Rams would hold Morris in single digits in both the first and last sets and would only allow 11 points the second. The Hornets would be unable to return many of the Rams serves, and CIU would record 22 aces in the match.
De'Asija Harden would record 8 aces alone behind powerful serves that left Morris searching for answers. Carla Cuachi and
Bruna Barrozo would combine for 15 digs in the match.
Megan Lung led the Ram in kills with 15.
The Rams would continue their prowess in the second match with another 3-0 sweep of the Hornets. Morris would be much more competitive in the first, however, and would even lead in the beginning stages of the game. Despite the Hornets' early success the Rams would pull away and win the first set 25-17. The second set would also be much closer with CIU only winning by 7. The third set would see the Rams once again overpower Morris and hold the Hornets to single digits.
Lily Tang led the Rams in assists for the first time this season posting 15 in the match.
Emma Munday recorded 6 kills and 5 assists while
Dzana Cisic led the Rams with 23 digs.
What Coach Haver is saying
"Tonight was a good night. These young women brought some energy that allowed us to have some options. We had the opportunity to run different lineups get some of our new freshman valuable playing time. Freshman,
Emma Munday had her college setting debut in the second match and I am proud of the way she handled the pressure. Overall it was a great night for us"
