CIU women's soccer took on the Toccoa Falls Eagles on Saturday afternoon. The Rams would leave with an epic 5-0 victory.
The Lady Rams would start fast in the first half with a goal from true freshman
Haley Hernandez in the 16th minute with an assist from
Taylor Kyles. Hernandez and Kyles would connect again in the 28th minute to put CIU up 2-0 over the eagles. The CIU scoring attack wouldn't end there. Rams forward
Kaylyn Hernandez would score in the 31st minute with an assist from
Rebekah Reinhardt. The Hernandez sisters would continue to dominate in the first half with another goal by Haley Hernadez in the 39th minute of play. CIU forward
Taylor Kyles would score the Rams 5th goal of the game in the 41st minute. The Rams entered the second half with a 5-0 lead over the Eagles.
The Eagles would make defensive adjustments in the second half and render the Rams scoreless. However, first-half dominance from CIU would prove to be too much for the Eagles.
Haley Hernandez's hat trick would lead CIU to a 5-0 victory of the Eagles. This would be
Haley Hernandez's first hat trick in her career, and notch four goals over just two games. "
Haley Hernandez has been outstanding for us through the first two games. We are very excited to continue to see her develop as a player and student." commented Rams head coach
Kara Farnsworth. Farnsworth pointed towards the Rams prepare for the win against the Eagles. "Proud of how our team has applied what we have done in practice. They have worked hard on getting better technically and finishing games and it showed today" Farnsworth said. Farnsworth was also pleased with the team's attitude during its first road trip of the season. "I am pleased with how our team has approached our first road trip. They were focused and ready to play." Farnsworth said.
The Rams look to their next game on September 7th against Point University.
