Softball Falls on Senior Day

For the last time this year the first ever team Softball team at Columbia International University took to the field. Before the game the Rams honored their lone senior Mackenzie Tindle for her contributions during the year as well as helping lead a young team. The Rams were looking to send Tindle out in style with wins against a NAIA Top 25 team in USC-Beaufort. Game one was all Sand Sharks as they won 15-0, but the Rams made ot close in game two until the Sand Sharks won 10-3.

Game One Highlights:
  • The Sand Sharks had runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the first, but Alyssa Allender got two strikeouts and a fly out to left to get out of the jam
  • Robyn Andrews singled to center to lead off the game, but was caught stealing and after one inning the game was scoreless
  • Two doubles in the top of the second got the Sand Sharks on the board with three runs
  • Kaylyn DeVaney led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Leslie Hicks. After a single by Madison Janning the Rams had runners on the corners, but two outs got the Sand Sharks out of the inning
  • The Sand Sharks would score two more runs in the top of the third to lead 5-0
  • The top of the fourth inning was a big one for the Sand Sharks as they scored 6 runs
  • The Rams looked to answer in the bottom of the fourth with two straight singles, but two ground outs and a pop out got the Sand Sharks out of the inning
  • The Sand Sharks would score four more runs in the top of the fifth to lead 15-0
Game One Box Score Highlights: Game Two Highlights:
  • The Sand Sharks led off the game with a single, but Robyn Andrews threw her out trying to steal second and two pop outs got the Rams out of the inning
  • Andrews led off the bottom of the first with a double to deep left field. Kaylyn DeVaney singled to left and the Rams had runners on the corners, but a double play got the Sand Sharks out of the inning
  • A double to deep left center field scored the games first run and the Sand Sharks led 1-0
  • The Sand Sharks would score two more runs in the top of the fourth with a two run home run to left field
  • DeVaney led off the inning with a walk and Kayla Washington singled to center. With two runners on Madison Janning stepped up to bat and crushed a ball over the center field fence to tie the game at three
  • In the top of the fifth the Sand Sharks answered with three runs of their own to regain the lead
  • The Sand Sharks would score for more runs in the top of the seventh with one being a home run and lead 10-3
  • Alyssa Allender led off the seventh inning with a double to deep left center that almost left the park. Allender would advance to third, but the Rams would fall 10-3
Game Two Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams scored three runs on seven hits...Madison Janning led the way with her three run home run, while Alyssa Allender and Robyn Andrews each had a double for the Rams...The Rams were also able to work three walks...Alexis Holler threw a solid six innings and Lana Fletcher pitched one inning in relief...The Sand Sharks scored 10 runs on 10 hits
The inaugural season for the Rams comes to close as they look to regroup and compete again next spring.
