The Columbia International University Softball team was back on the field today as they welcomed conference opponent Montreat College. The Rams split their first AAC games last Satuday with Milligan College and today were the first conference games for the Cavaliers. Game one and two saw the Cavaliers take advantage of timely hitting with runners on base and the Rams were unable to capitalize on their chances falling 3-0 in game one and 6-3 in game two. The Rams fall to 7-9 on the year, while the Cavaliers move to 11-9.
Game One Highlights:
- The Cavaliers first batter of the game got on via a walk, but Alexis Holler got the next three out to get out of the inning
- In the bottom of the inning Robyn Andrews and Kaylyn DeVaney got on base for the Rams with no outs. After an out Kayla Washington was able to single to center to load the bases, but two strikeouts for the Rams saw the inning end scoreless
- The Cavaliers would score in the top of the second on a double to take the early lead
- The Rams would go down in order the next two innings and the Cavaliers were able to put another run up on the board
- The Cavaliers scored once again in the top of the fifth inning to lead 3-0
- The Rams struggled to get the ball to fall all game and fell by the final score of 3-0
Game One Box Score Highlights:
- Kayla Washington had the Rams only hit, but the Rams forced three walks with Robyn Andrews having two...Alexs Holler pitched all seven innings and only allowed the three runs on nine hits...Cailin Warner was dominated on the mound for the Cavaliers as she pitched seven innings and had 14 strikeouts
Game Two Highlights:
- The Cavaliers started of the game scoring one run on three hits in the top of the first
- Kaylyn DeVaney and Alyssa Allender got on base for the Rams to put some pressure on the Cavaliers, but the Rams were unable to score in the bottom of the first
- Up until the fifth inning the game moved along as neither team was able to muster up much offense
- In the top of the fifth the Cavaliers bats came to life as they scored five runs on five hits to take a 6-0 lead
- The Rams answered in the bottom of the fifth as Brittney Allender and Robyn Andrews each reached on a single. On a 1-1 count DeVaney crushed a ball over the right-center field fence for a three run home run and the Rams were down 6-3 after the fifth inning
- The Rams put some pressure on in the top of the sixth, but fell by the final score of 6-3
Game Two Box Score Highlights:
- The Rams scored three runs on six hits...Kaylyn DeVaney led the way with two hits which included her three run home run...Alyssa Allender and Madison Janning each worked two walks to get on base...Destiny Munoz led the Cavaliers with three hits and Charlie Smith pitched all seven innings
Up Next: The Rams will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Winston-Salem, NC to take on the Bruins of Piedmont International. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm.
