The Columbia International University Softball team was coming off their first two wins in program history last Saturday against Trinity Baptist College. Today the Rams hit the road again as they traveled to take on Southern Wesleyan University. However, today was not the Rams day as their bats went cold and they fell in both games of the doubleheader.

Game One Highlights:

• Kayla Washington got the Rams first hit of the game as she singled in the top of the first
• The Warriors bats got going right away as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by a grand slam
• The Warriors scored three more runs in the bottom of the second inning 
• The Rams would get on the board in the top of the third as Alyssa Allender would score on a single up the middle by Trinity Jennings
• The Warriors would score two runs in both the bottom of the third and fourth inning and win game one 14-1

Box Score Highlights:

• Seven different Rams would get a hit for the team...Trinity Jennings had the Rams only run batted in...Eight different Warriors would have a hit...Ashton Martin led the Warriors with four runs batted in highlighted by her grand slam...She also led the Warriors on the mound throwing a complete game only allowing seven hits

Game Two Highlights:

• The Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the first on a single to go up 1-0
• Each team would not score in the second inning
• The Rams would score their first and only run of the game on a single by Kaylyn DeVaney scoring Brittney Allender
• In the bottom of the third the Warriors would score seven runs on four hits to lead 8-1
• The Warriors would score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to win the game 10-1 in five innings

Coaches Quote: "I'm glad we had a chance to compete against a team that executed the short game and base running skill as well as Southern Wesleyan did today, it was a good eye opener for our young team. Our mindset for February is to find our team momentum so today gave us a lot of really good talking points towards figuring that out. Even though the game scores were so lopsided I did see a lot of really good progress in the defensive and offensive skills we worked on tightening up at practice this past week, so we are going to use today as another foundational stepping stone towards becoming a competitive team."

Up Next: The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to take on Erskine College in Due West, SC. The first game on the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm.
