Cold Shooting Rams Fall to the Bulldogs

The Columbia International University Women's Basketball team took to the road for a midweek game in Barbourville, Kentucky. The Rams took on the Bulldogs of Union College on their home court. The Rams were looking to sweep the season series over the Bulldogs, but two big quarters by the Bulldogs gave them a 73-59 victory over the Rams.

1st Quarter Highlights:
  • Each team got off to a cold start, but the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 5-0 lead four minutes into the game
  • The Rams first baskets came off two free throws by Jordan Sprueill
  • The Rams would then get points off a free throw by Semoine Frasier and a basket by Lakelyn Malovic
  • Over a thirty-second period Keniah Watkins and Malovic each had two points for the Rams and they pulled within two, 11-9
  • The Bulldogs scored the final two points to lead 13-9 after the first ten minutes
2nd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Rams would get on the board first with a layup by Watkins
  • The Bulldogs would score a basket of their own, but a jumper by Britney Brown kept the Rams within two of the Bulldogs
  • Over the next two minutes the Bulldogs would go out in front by seven
  • Renee Carter put a stop to the Bulldogs run and brought them within five
  • With four minutes left in the quarter the Bulldogs took a double digit lead
  • The Rams would get a three by Brown and a jumper from Frasier to close out the quarter
  • The Bulldogs took a 36-20 lead at the break
3rd Quarter Highlights:
  • Over the first two minutes of the quarter the Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run to take a big lead
  • Sprueill got the Rams on the board in the quarter and she would trim the Bulldogs lead below twenty on a three point play
  • The teams would go back and forth, but the Bulldogs would stay out in front
  • The Rams closed closed out the quarter with a three by Mary Catherine Outlaw
4th Quarter Highlights:
  • Sprueill got the quarter started with two free throws
  • The Rams would go on an 8-0 run highlighted by four points by Queeneka Howard
  • Over the final two and a half minutes the Rams went on a 7-0 run to close out the game
  • At the final buzzer the Bulldogs won 72-59
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams struggled from the floor as they shot 28.6% (18-of-63) from the field, but were only 3-of-15 from beyond the arch...The Bulldogs shot 39.1% from the field and were 17-of-25 from the free throw line...The Bulldogs dominated the boards as they had 49 rebounds compared to the Rams 33...The Rams forced the Bulldogs into 19 turnovers while limiting their own to 12...Jordan Sprueill led the Rams with 18 points and nine rebounds...Queeneka Howard had 11 points and seven rebounds...Semoine Frasier had seven points off the bench...Logan Calvert led the Bulldogs with 15 points
