Eagles Soar Past the Rams

The Columbia International University Women's Basketball team has been on a stretch playing against some of the better teams in the conference and today was another one of those games as they took on Reinhardt University. The Rams made the trip to Waleska, GA to battle the Eagles, but a couple big quarters by the Eagles push them to a 75-52 victory over the Rams.

1st Quarter Highlights:
  • The Rams started the game off strong as Renee Carter scored the first four points of the game
  • The Rams would hold onto their four point lead off free throws by Jordan Sprueill and Britney Brown
  • With just over three minutes left in the quarter the Rams took a seven point lead on a jumper by Keniah Watkins
  • A jumper by Semoine Frasier was the last point of the quarter, but at the end of ten minutes the Rams were ahead, 16-10
2nd Quarter Highlights:
  • It took a minute and a half for the first points of the quarter to be scored, but two straight threes by Brown and Queeneka Howard gave the Rams a 12 point lead
  • The Eagles would trim the lead back to single digits and tie the game at twenty-four with just over four minutes left in the quarter
  • The teams would go cold from the field for a three minute stretch, but two free throws by Kiara Austin gave the Rams the lead back
  • The Eagles would score the final seven points of the quarter and lead 31-26 at the half
3rd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Eagles would score the first points out of the break, but a three by Mary Catherine Outlaw brought the Rams back within four points
  • Over the next four minutes the Rams and Eagles would trade baskets as the Rams never let the Eagles go up by more than six points
  • The Eagles closed out the quarter on a 17-5 run over the final four minutes'
  • With one quarter remaining the Rams trailed the Eagles 58-40
4th Quarter Highlights:
  • Sprueill got the fourth quarter started with a made free throw and Carter would follow with a free throw of her own
  • After the free throw the Eagles would go on a 13-0 run, but two free throw by Howard put a halt to the run
  • In the final minute the Rams would get baskets by Hannah Trawick and Keniah Watkins
  • The Rams would fall by the final score of 75-52
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams shot 32.7% (17-of-52) as a team and was only 4-of-11 from beyond the arc...The Eagles shot 39.3% from the floor and were 19-of-23 from the charity stripe...The Rams and Eagles were pretty well matched off the glass as the Eagles had 36 rebounds and the Rams had 35...The Rams struggled with 25 turnovers as the Eagles got 23 points of their turnovers...Queeneka Howard led the Rams with 8 points... Britney Brown, Renee Carter, and Semoine Frasier all had seven points...Ashton Sutton led the Eagles with 13 points
Up Next: The Rams will be back in action on Thursday as they return home to take on Montreat College. The Rams will honor their three seniors, Jordan Sprueill, Semoine Frasier, and Sam Wammock after the game.
