Rams Take Bears to the Wire

CLEVELAND, GA- The CIU Women's basketball team headed to Cleveland, GA to take on Truett-McConnell University Wednesday night. CIU entered the game with 2 wins in the conference while the Bears came in sitting at .500 in the AAC. The Rams dropped both games to the Bears last season and would be unable to overcome the TMU once again, falling 61-57 in the team's first meeting of the season.

How Happened

1st Half TMU 31 CIU 25: The Bears started strong out of the gate, taking an 8-2 lead over the Rams in the first 3:00 minutes of the game. TMU would extend the lead, but a Keniah Watkins triple brought the Rams in striking distance 20-11 at the end of the first quarter. Larissa Lee set the tone for the Rams, hitting a three-pointer to start the second quarter. The Bears would keep the lead, but the Rams would trim the advantage to just six after a Britney Brown finish at the buzzer brought the score to 31-25 at the half.

2nd Half TMU 61 CIU 57: Led by 8-straight points from Jordan Sprueill, the Rams would start the half on a 9 to 2 run and lead by 34-33 halfway through the third quarter. CIU would extend the lead to nine 46-37 behind hot shooting from Brown and then take a 46-40 advantage into the final quarter. CIU would lead by as much as seven in the fourth but would be outscored 17-6 down the stretch and lose 61-57.

Game Notes 

  • Jordan Sprueill had yet another double-double putting up 15 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Britney Brown had 13 points shooting 50% from the field.
  • The Rams saw a substantial contribution from Renee Carter, who had her best game to date, pulling down 12 boards and scoring 7 points.
