McIlwain Earns NCCAA and AAC Recognition
COLUMBIA, SC – CIU Basketball's
Jeff McIlwain was named both the
NCCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Week and the
Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday. The honors come after McIlwain scored 25 points, pulled in 8 boards, and blocked 4 shots in the Rams win 89-77 win over the Montreat College Cavaliers on November 26th. The contest was the only game of a holiday-shortened week, but McIlwain made the most of his time on the floor.
When asked what the awards meant to him, the senior from Englewood, NJ replied, "It is a big honor, but not something I would have been able to accomplish without my teammates and Coach Stockman. Being able to contribute to the win over Montreat was extremely important; we have had a lot of close conference games, and it was good to be able to pull that one out."
McIlwain is currently third in the conference in rebounds with 9.6 per game and in the top twenty in scoring averaging just over 13 points per game.
Head Men's basketball coach
Tony Stockman commented on McIlwain's recognition saying. "I am pleased with the season Jeff is having. He has been working extremely hard, and it is great to see that work paying off."
These are the first weekly honors obtained by the men's basketball program so far this season.
