Women's Basketball Takes on Top Team in the AAC

DAYTON, TN – The CIU women's basketball team played the top team in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon when they squared off against the Lions of Bryan College. The Lions entered the contest 7-0 overall and as the 20th ranked team in the country. The Rams would battle Bryan on the Lions' home court but would stumble 97-64.

How It Happened:

1st Half BC 56 CIU 32: The Rams would get off to a slow start in the first quarter as Bryan took an early 11-2 lead. However, deep balls from Kiara Austin and Mary Catherine Outlaw would spark the Rams allowing them to chip the advantage down to 15-8. Bryan would hold the Rams at bay, however, and go into the second quarter up 31-15. Sophomore sharpshooter Britney Brown would get going during the second quarter knocking down a triple. Larissa Lee would score multiple times in the paint for CIU as well, but the Rams would still trail at the half 56-32.

2nd Half BC 97 CIU 64: Lee would start the scoring for the Rams in the second half drilling a three-pointer. Brown and Outlaw would also contribute from outside while Joy Jones held her own under the basket. The Rams would still trail, however, but were able to trim the lead to 75-50 at the end of the third. Brown would lead the Rams in the quarter. The sophomore guard scored in a variety of ways to help CIU compete, but despite Brown's spirited play, the Rams would fall 97-64.

  • The Rams were paced by Larissa Lee, who scored 12 points.
