COLUMBIA, SC- The CIU women's basketball hosted crosstown Appalachian Athletic Conference rival, Columbia College, Tuesday night at the Moore Fitness Center. The meeting was the first of the year between the teams. The Rams dropped both of their contests to the Koalas last year but would start a new streak Monday night, however knocking off Columbia 63-54.
How It Happened:
First Half CIU 38 CC 23: The Rams would start hot, and after threes from Mary Catherine Outlaw, a deep ball from by Jay Mazyck would give the Rams an 11-4 lead. The Koalas would keep it close, however, and CIU would only lead by two at the end of the first quarter after a Larissa Lee bucket put the Rams up 16-14.
The second quarter would start with the Rams and Koalas deadlocked at 18-18. The Rams would then explode on a 20 to 0 run fueled by hot shooting from Queeneka Howard and Britney Brown as well as strong play inside from Jordan Sprueill. CIU would end the half up by double digits 38-23.
Second Half CIU 63 CC 54: Paced by the senior Sprueill , the Rams would lead 46-30 with 5:00 minutes left in the third quarter. A few possessions later, a long ball from Larissa Lee would push the Rams forward 49-30. CIU would stay staunch for the rest of the quarter going into the fourth 51-33.
The fourth quarter would see a surge from the Kolas as they chipped away at the Rams lead. Keniah Watkins would knock down a jumper from the foul line to hold Columbia College back momentarily. However, Columbia College would get as close as seven, 59-52 until Jordan Sprueill would score inside, and CIU would pull out the win 63-54.

- Jordan Sprueill once again led the Rams in scoring posting 15 points and 7 rebounds
- Queeneka Howard had one of her best performances to date with 12 points and 7 boards
- CIU had a season-high 23 steals while forcing 31 turnovers
- The Rams shot 61% from three hitting 8 treys
