Columbia, SC - CIU men's soccer opened post-season play in Athens, TN, against the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs. The Rams second half come back was not enough to upset the #1 overall seed Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs opened up the scoring in the 4th minute from TWU forward Tom Lake. TWU would strike again in the 5th minute to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. The Rams recovered from this early onset and would score in the 17th minute. CIU leading goal scorer Marcos Da Paz sunk a kick into the back of the net to bring the deficit to one. However, it wasn't long until the Bulldogs answered back. TWU went up 3-1 in the 18th minute with a score from Kyle Wynne. The Bulldogs weren't done yet as they would score in the 39th and 45th minute in the first half to make it 5-1 heading into halftime.
The Rams looked to even the game with the Bulldogs as the second half began. CIU midfielder Doran Batterman scored CIU's 2nd goal of the game in the 59th minute. This score energized the Rams, as they would continue to pound the Bulldog defenders. Marcos Da Paz would cut the deficit to two with a goal in the 81st minute. However, this late surge was not enough to equalize with the Bulldogs. The Rams would fall 5-3.
