Columbia, SC - CIU men's soccer returned to the pitch on Wednesday to take on the Reinhardt University Eagles. The Rams ultimately fell in a hard-fought match up.Â
The first half saw both teams even with one another. Reinhardt was able to apply pressure with five shots, four of which were saved by CIU goalkeeper
Hugo Lemus. The Eagles were able to score first with a goal in the 34th minute from Yosr Frej. The Rams recovered and were able to hold the Eagles to a 1-0 lead in the first half.Â
The Rams had some work to do in the second half and looked to draw even with the Eagles. However, Reinhardt would score a 54th-minute goal to go-ahead 2-0 over the Rams. The Eagles scored yet again in the 59th minute to create a 3-0 lead over the Rams. CIU found life with a goal from
Rahim Gordon in the 64th minute. The Rams hoped to take this momentum and find two more goals to draw even with the Eagles. However, the Reinhardt defenders proved to the stern of a test for the CIU forwards. The Eagles would score for the fourth and final time in the 85th minute to secure a 4-1 over the Rams.Â
CIU looks to regroup for their next match against Truett-McConnell University this Saturday at 3:00 PM.Â
