Knights Snap Rams Winning Streak

Coming into tonight's game the Columbia International University Women's Basketball team was riding high on a three game winning streak. The Rams welcomed the Knights of St. Andrews University to the Moore Fitness Center looking to win their fourth straight. A slow second quarter hurt the Rams as they fell 64-55 to the Knights.

1st Quarter Highlights:
  • The Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead early on with a layup by Renee Carter and a free throw by Britney Brown
  • The Knights would answer a minute later as they hit a three of their own to tie the game
  • Each team would go cold, but Jordan Sprueill would break the cold spell with a jumper
  • The teams would tie at six with 4:40 left in the quarter
  • The Rams and Knights would tie again at eight, but after that Knights jumped in front by five
  • The Rams closed the quarter with the final five points thanks to a jumper and three pointer from Brown
2nd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Knights would score the first five points of the quarter before Sprueill convert a pass from Larissa Lee
  • The Rams would pull within three on numerous occasions
  • With just 2:23 left in the quarter the Rams were back within three from two made free throws by Hannah Trawick
  • The Knights would score immediately following that, but then each team went cold again as the Rams trailed 27-22 at the half
3rd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Rams first two points of the quarter came off free throws by Brown
  • With five and a half minutes left in the quarter the Rams pulled within two as Sprueill and Lee hocked up again
  • The teams went back and forth with the Knights pushing their lead as high as seven
  • The Rams continued to battled and were down five, 42-37 at the end of the quarter after a jumper in the paint by Keniah Watkins
4th Quarter Highlights:
  • The Knights got the first basket of the quarter, but then Watkins would hit a three and a layup by Lee pulled the Rams within two points
  • Six straight points by the Knights gave them their biggest lead of the game at eight
  • Over the next two and a half minutes the Rams would score six points of their own and come within two points of taking the lead back from the Knights
  • The Knights would go on an 8-0 run to lead by ten with a minute and thirty seconds left in the game
  • With just forty-nine second left in the game the Rams were back within five of the Knights on a free throw by Sprueill
  • The Knights would close out the game and win by the final score of 64-55
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams struggled from the floor as they shot 31.3% (21-of-67), but were just 3-of-18 from beyond the arch...The Knights shot 51.1% (23-of-45) from the field and were 11-of-16 from the charity stripe...The Rams forced the Knights into 25 turnovers and had 20 of their own...The Rams led the game with 39 rebounds compared to the Knights 34...Jordan Sprueill led the Rams with a near double-double of 16 points and nine rebounds...Keniah Watkins had 13 points...Britney Brown was the last Ram in double figures with 12 points...Renee Carter had a solid game with nine rebounds and six points...Morgan Perkins led the Knights with 31 points and 11 rebounds
