Rams Unable to Hold Onto Lead

The Columbia International University Women's Basketball team was looking to get back on track after falling to St. Andrews on Tuesday. The Rams were also looking to pull off an upset against the Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan University. The Rams had a halftime lead, but two strong quarters by the Bulldogs allowed them to edged out the Rams for a 71-61 victory.

1st Quarter Highlights:
  • Over the first two minutes the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 6-0 lead
  • The Rams first points would come off a three by Queeneka Howard
  • After a free throw by the Bulldogs the Rams would pull within one on a three by Keniah Watkins
  • The Rams fought back and tied the game at nine on another three by Larissa Lee
  • Over the final five minutes the Bulldogs would score seven points to the Rams two and the Rams trailed 16-11 after the first ten minutes
2nd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Bulldogs started the quarter off with a three point play, but Mary Catherine Outlaw hit a three to trim the deficit to five
  • The Rams continued to fight and pulled within two one free throws by Jordan Sprueill
  • The Rams would take their first lead of the game on a three by Semoine Frasier
  • After the three the Rams would close the quarter out on a 6-0 run with points by Britney Brown and Sprueill
  • At the half the Rams led the Bulldogs 30-23
3rd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Bulldogs trimmed the Rams lead to three, but a layup by Watkins gave the Rams their first points of the quarter
  • The Rams would score on back-to-back possessions to take a six point lead
  • The Rams continued to hold onto the lead with a three point play by Sprueill
  • With just 1:14 left in the quarter the Rams held a slim one point lead, but just seven seconds later a three by Outlaw pushed the Rams lead back to four
  • Over the final minute the Bulldogs would regain the lead and take a 48-47 lead over the Rams
4th Quarter Highlights:
  • The Rams would keep the Bulldogs lead to two on multiple occasions
  • The Bulldogs would push their lead, but on two occasions Frasier would hit her free throws to trim the lead to three
  • With just three minutes left in the game Lee would hit a three to bring the Rams with six points
  • The Bulldogs would hit their free throws and win the game 71-61
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Rams shot 31.7% (20-of-63) from the floor and were only 7-of-20 from the three point line...The Rams were 14-of-17 from the charity stripe...The Bulldogs shot 38.2% for the game and were 19-of-21 from the free throw line...The Rams forced the Bulldogs into 14 turnovers and only had six of their own...The Bulldogs held a 44-34 rebounding advantage over the Rams...Jordan Sprueill led the Rams with 14 points and 14 rebounds...Semoine Frasier had 9 points off the bench...Larissa Lee and Mary Catherine Outlaw had eight points each...Hunter Simpson had 25 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs
