Battermann's Overtime Goal Lifts the Rams to Victory

For the third game in a row the Columbia International University Women's Soccer team was at home. Tonight the Rams welcomed fellow NCCAA South Region foe Southern Wesleyan Warriors to Sessions Field. The two teams were even matched, but a few key bounces in the Rams favor and a beautiful chip shot in overtime by Alanna Battermann lifted the Rams to victory. The Rams move to 3-0 on the year, while the Warriors fall to 1-1.

1st Half Highlights:
  • The Rams got off the first shot of the game as Battermann's shot went wide
  • The two teams went back and forth with shots, but the teams went into the break scoreless
2nd Half Highlights:
  • The Warriors came out looking for the games first goal as they opened the half with four shots in a two minute span
  • The Rams woke up a little bit after the seeing the energy that the Warriors came out with
  • The teams continued to trade shots, but the Rams were unable to find the back of the net and a few great saves from Sam Wammock kept the Warriors off the board
Overtime Highlights:
  • The Warriors were the first team to get a shot off in the overtime. They found a weak spot in the Rams defense after a couple key passes, but the post became the Rams best friend after the Warriors shot rang off the post
  • The Rams pushed the ball down the field after the Warriors shot and just as she did all game Rebekah Reinhard found a gap and found a streaking Alanna Battermann who chipped the ball in over the Warriors keeper to give the Rams a huge 1-0 victory
Box Score Numbers:
  • Columbia International took 16 shots with seven on goal, while Southern Wesleyan had 15 shots with 7 on goal...Sam Wammock had seven saves for the Rams...Alanna Battermann had the lone goal of the game with Rebekah Reinhard picking up the assist...Ashley Romanowski led the Warriors with three shots on goal.
Up Next: The Rams will be back in action on Monday as they travel to take on Piedmont International University. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 pm.
