Lions Roar Past the Rams

The Columbia International University Women's Basketball was back on their home court for the first time since Thanksgiving. The Rams welcomed #19 Bryan College to the Moore Fitness Center. The Lions were all over the Rams from the opening tip and beat the Rams 89-59.

1st Quarter Highlights:
  • The Lions would race out to an early 10-0 lead
  • The Rams first basket came from Amia Stone Johnson at the 6:19 mark
  • The Lions would go up 21-2, but two straight baskets by Jay Mazyck and Hannah Trawick would give the Rams seven points
  • The Lions would lead 24-7 after the 1st Quarter
2nd Quarter Highlights:
  • The Rams would score the first basket of the second quarter off a layup by Britney Brown
  • Back to back baskets by Stone Johnson and Jordan Sprueill would pull the Rams within fifteen
  • The Rams final five points of the half came from Renee Carter, but the Lions led 39-20 at half
3rd Quarter Highlights:
  • Three straight three's by the Lions pushed their lead to 28 to open the third quarter
  • The Rams and Lions would go back and forth trading baskets and pull within 18 after a Brown layup
  • The Lions would lead 65-42 after the third quarter
4th Quarter Highlights:
  • A free throw by Sprueill would be the first points of the fourth quarter
  • The Lions and Rams would trade baskets once again, but a strong final minutes gave the Lions a 89-59 victory
Box Score Highlights:
  • The Lions shot 46.6% (30-of-63) from the field and were 17-of-34 from the three point line, while the Rams shot 37.5% (24-of-64) and were only 5-of-21 from beyond the arc...The Lions held a small 41-35 rebound advantage...Jordan Sprueill and Renee Carter led the Rams with 16 points a piece...Sprueill also chipped in with nine rebounds...Amia Stone Johnson had a solid game with eight points, six rebounds, and three assists...The Lions had four players in double figures with Amber Levi leading the way with 17 points
