Montreat, N.C.-
After a mid week loss to Reinhardt, the women's soccer team traveled to Montreat as part of a doubleheader and with both teams coming into the game with similar records, it was set to be a very exciting matchup between both teams.
Sotiria Tsilionis was the first Ram to get a shot off as it was saved by the keeper in the first half. CIU found three scoring opportunities later but shots went high and wide.
Nadia Threatt got the nod to start at goalie after halftime,  and once again both teams traded saves as the Cavs got off four shots in the opening 15 minutes in the second half.
Kaylyn Hernandez got off two shots late in regulation, as the last shot with three minutes to go was saved by Payton Landy. With a minute to go, Montreat nearly ended the game but a great save by Threatt helped send the game in overtime.
In the first overtime period, the Rams had a chance to end the game with less than three minutes remaining as Tsilionis's shot went high. Once again
Nadia Threatt made three very pivotal saves as both teams went into the final overtime period still deadlocked at zero. In the second overtime period, the Rams picked up a corner kick and another Tsilionis shot that went wide, but with 1:58 remaining Kaitlyn Adams finally broke the tie to win the game for the Cavaliers,
Montreat moves to 4-4-3 overall and 3-3-2 in conference play, while CIU drops to 4-4-2 and 0-4-1 in conference play.
Next game up for the Rams will be a Monday road trip to Bluefield College in a Battle of the Rams, kickoff time set for 5 PM.
