Volleyball Back on Track With Win Over Brenau

Columbia, S.C.-

After a heartbreaking loss against St. Andrews, volleyball returned to the Moore Fitness Center for a conference matchup with the Golden Tigers of Brenau University. These two teams met earlier in the season with the Rams coming out victorious 3-1. With the season beginning to wind down, CIU was looking to make a move up the conference standings.

1st Set Highlights
The game opened with the Tigers scoring first before CIU would grab the lead and as Brenau kept creeping to tie the game, it was a two point until a five point rally that was capped by Bruna Barrozo's back to back aces put the Rams up for good as they went on to take the first set 25-15

2nd Set Highlights
The second set featured great play from the trio of Lily Tang, Rachael Branham, and CJ Hinson as they put the foot on the gas pedal in this set and the Tigers routed 25-12 that ended via kill from Tang.

3rd Set Highlights
The third set saw many lead changes as Brenau looked to force a fourth set as the lead changed several times until a five point rally and later a six point rally put the set out of reach, and though a late surge from the Tigers saw them down 19-24, a service error doomed the comeback and the Rams won the final set and match 25-19

The victory saw CIU end a four game losing streak and another key win in conference play, moving to 11-13 overall and 5-7 in AAC play. Brenau falls to 2-22 overall and 1-12 in AAC play. Currently this win puts the Rams third in the AAC South.

Leading the Rams in kills was De'Asija Harden and CJ Hinson with 13. Bruna Barrozo recorded five aces, with Branham and Tang getting two. Aniya Marshall picked up two spectacular blocks tonight, and Mackenzie Sanchez lead with 20 assists and picked up seven digs along the way.

The Rams get the weekend off to rest before hitting the next Tuesday with a huge road test against Point University who sits right in front of them in the division, game time set for 4 PM.
