Rams Struggle on the Road
The Columbia International University men's basketball team made the quick trip to Sumter, SC to take on Morris College. The Rams were looking to pick up a win after falling on Tuesday to Bob Jones. The Rams were unable to get going from the start and fell ---. The Rams fall to 6-14 on the season.
The Hornets would score the first two points of the half, but on the Rams next possession
Jacob Cook took a pass from
Micah Banks and hit a three. However, after that three the Hornets would go on a 18-4 run. The Hornets would continue to run up their lead as the Rams struggled on the defensive end. Over the last seven minutes of the half the Rams would score 15 points with six coming from Banks. At the half the Rams were down 56-30.
The difference between turnovers and rebounds was the major reason for the Rams struggles. The Rams committed 15 turnovers in the first half compared to the Hornets six. The Hornets also out rebounded the Rams 18-10. In the first half the Rams shot 42.3% (11-of-26), while the Hornets shot 65.7% (23-of-35).
The Rams would start the second half with three free throws from
Damian Hurta, but the Hornets would match that with a three on their next possession. After two layups from
Juraj Rovis and another three from Hurta the Rams cut the deficit to 22. Unfortunately for the Rams the Hornets would continue to sting them on the offensive end as it seemed as if they couldn't miss. The Rams would trim the lead to 23 on multiple occasions, but would fall 103-80.
Columbia International shot 44.8% (26-of-58) for the game and were 22-of-30 from the free throw line...Morris shot 52.6% (40-of-76) from the field and were 12-of-25 from beyond the arc...The Hornets held a 38-34 rebounding advantage. The Rams were forced into 24 turnovers...
Micah Banks had a career high with 27 points and had six assists...
Gabe Kirk had 13 points and seven rebounds...
Juraj Rovis had 11 points and
Jacob Cook had eight points and 10 boards...Raekwon McFadden led the Hornets with 17 points.
Columbia International is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Montreat College for a 7 p.m. game.
