Rams Stumble in Final Seconds
Rams Stumble in Final Seconds
The Columbia International University men's soccer team took a quick Friday trip up Interstate 77 to play the Johnson & Wales-Charlotte Wildcats. The game was a hard fought battle for both teams, but the Wildcats would score in the final minute to sink the Rams, 3-2.

The Rams came into the game looking to pick a win and get back on track, while the Wildcats were looking to keep an unblemished record. Throughout the first period the Wildcats would score a goal on the chances that they had. The Rams got off to a fast start as they got two first half goals from Victor Maron after a pass from Ricky Prestridge at 19:35 and Hastin McGill got the Rams their second with an assist to Hunter Haynes at 30:34. The Rams would take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

Just over six minutes into the second half the Wildcats would get their second goal of the game to tie the Rams. Each team would continue to push for that third and possibly deciding goal. The Rams would have their chances, but each time the shot would go high, wide, or right to the keeper. The Wildcats would push as well, but numerous stops from the defense and Dominik Schleinitz kept the game tied. Unfortunately for the Rams a miss communication led to a wide open Wildcats player who was able to score with seconds remaining.

Columbia International had 20 shots with 11 on goal, while the Wildcats had nine shots with five on goal...Schleinitz had two saves...Victor Maron and Paul Grandacarpio each had four shots for the Rams.

Columbia International will be back in action on Wednesday as they travel to take on NCCAA South Region foe Emmanuel College at 7 p.m.
