Rams and Crusaders Fight to a Tie
The Columbia International University women's soccer team was looking to get back on track after falling in overtime their last time out. The Rams traveled to North Greenville University to take on the Crusaders. The Rams came into the game with a record of 3-2, while the Crusaders entered at 3-3-2. Each team would fight and battle, but at the end of 110 minutes the teams would keep each other scoreless and tie.
The Crusaders were the team that got off to a fast start as they had two shots and five corners in the first thirteen minutes, but the Rams were up for the challenge and the game remained scoreless. Almost fourteen minutes into the game the Rams got their first shot off as
Rebecca Giancana's shot was saved by the keeper. Each team would continue to push, but most of the half would be played in the midfield as neither team could materialize much pressure. In the last eleven minutes of the half the Rams would get three shots on goal. The Rams best chance was off a corner from
Sotiria Tsilionis as she crossed the ball into
Kaylyn Hernandez, She was able to get her head on it, but the keeper just tipped it over the crossbar. Each team would go into the half scoreless.
Just like the first half the Crusaders took over the beginning. The Rams got their first shot of the half at the 76:49 mark as
Janna Rickenbaker shot went wide. The Rams would get two more shots off in the period, but after 90 minutes the two teams were heading to overtime.
The first overtime didn't feature a lot of attacking as the Crusaders had one shot and corner, while the Rams got one shot off the foot of
McKenzie Miller.
The second overtime featured a lot more action as the Rams got off the first shot as
Alanna Battermann's kick went just wide. Battermann would get another shot off, but this time it was saved by the keeper. After 110 minutes later the two teams would fight to a draw.
North Greenville led the way in shots with 22 overall and 11 on goal, while Columbia International had 10 shots with 6 on goal...The Crusaders led with nine corners, while the Rams had three, but got a shot off of each corner...
Angel Simpson and
Sam Wammock were key in goal tonight as they had a combined shutout...Simpson had two saves, while Wammock had nine...Battermann led the way for the Rams in shots as she four overall with three on goal...The Crusaders were led by Karly Denaburg with four shots.
Columbia International will be back in action on Saturday night as they host Johnson and Wales-Charlotte for a 7 p.m. game.
