Box Score The Columbia International University men's basketball team welcomed Barber-Scotia College to the Moore Fitness Center tonight. The Rams were looking to avenge an early season loss to the Sabers, but the Sabers hit key shots and forced the Rams to turn the ball over. The Sabers would win 107-103. The Rams fall to 10-16, while the Sabers move to 13-8.
The Sabers would take an early lead, but that was short lived as Nayquan Wilson hit a three to give the Rams their first lead of the game. The two teams would then tie at five just a minute and a half into the game. The Sabers would then jump out in front of the Rams and take a 17-10 lead over the next four minutes. The Rams would continue to fight and take a 22-21 lead at the 11:37 mark after a three from Damian Hurta. The teams would battle, but the Sabers would eventually jump out in front of the Rams and lead 41-33 with four and half left to go before halftime. At the 1:56 mark the Rams were able to push the ball down the court and JC Cavin found a high flying Tyrone Dantzler Jr. for an alley opp to give the Rams a 45-43 lead. The Rams would take a 51-48 lead into the half.
Over the first four and a half minutes in the second half the teams would tie or exchange leads as neither team could really pull away. The two teams would tie at 60, but the Sabers would go on a 7-0 run. The Rams would continue to battle and trim the lead to one on multiple occasions. The Rams would tie the game at 81 after a three from Cavin with 7:55 remaining. The Rams would continue to put pressure on the Sabers and take a six point lead after a layup from Ryan Gibson. However, the Sabers would fight back and tie the game at 100 with 1:15 remaining. The Sabers would take the lead after that a never let it go as the Rams would fall 107-103.
Columbia International shot an impressive 52.1 percent (37-of-71) from the floor and 17-of-33 from three, while Barber-Scotia shot 54.1 percent (40-of-74) from the field and 14-of-29 from three...Columbia International hit 17 threes which is a new program record...The Rams also held the edge on the glass as they pulled down 44 rebounds compared to the Sabers 28...The Rams also dished out 32 assists which is another program record...JC Cavin had a double-double for the Rams as he had 10 points and 13 assists, while also pulling down six rebounds...The 13 assists are a single game record...Damian Hurta led the Rams in scoring with 21 points and had seven rebounds...Nayquan Wilson and Tyrone Dantzler Jr. each had 18 points...Ryan Gibson chipped in with 17 points and eight rebounds...Jonathan Gaddy Jr. led the Sabers with 46 points.
Columbia International will have off for over a week before they travel to Voorhees College for their final regular season game. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 8 pm.
