Second Half Struggles Sink the Rams Against Pride
The Columbia International University men's basketball team had a short rest before they were back in action today against Greensboro College. The Rams took on the Pride in each teams final game of the Roger Taylor Invitational. Each team was coming off a lose in their first game of the tournament so each team was trying to head back home with a win. The Rams offense was clicking today as they shot over 50%, but the team struggled in the second half and fell 94-72.
The Pride would get on the board first with a layup after a Rams turnover, but just like yesterday
Juraj Rovis would get the Rams on the board first. The two teams would battle, but at the 16:30 mark the Rams picked up their first lead after a jump shot from
Micah Banks. Just like before the teams went back and forth with their scoring. From the 15:24 mark to the 4:20 mark their were five ties and numerous lead changes. The game was tied at 30, but after two jumpers made by
Micah Banks and
Kameron Robinson the Rams took a 34-30 lead with just under three minutes left in the half. The Pride would regain the lead and hold onto it until the end of the half. The Rams would go into the half down 46-42. The Rams shot 56% from the field in the first half.
The Pride would open the half with a three, but the Rams matched that right away as
Damian Hurta hit a three for the Rams on their next possession. After a
Tyrone Dantzler Jr. layup at the 17:03 mark the Rams were only down by two, 51-49. The Rams would continue to chip away at the lead with
Gabe Kirk trimming the lead to one after his layup. Unfortunately, after the Rams cut down on the lead they went on an 11-0 run to build a twelve point lead. The Rams would get back to scoring after a layup from
Micah Banks, but the Pride continued to build their lead. At the end the Rams fell and the Pride took home the win.
Columbia International shot an outstanding 51.7% (30-58) from the field, while Greensboro College shot 49.2% (29-59)...The Rams pulled down 37 rebounds...Turnovers hurt the Rams as they had 27 throughout the game...
Micah Banks led the Rams with 25 points...
Druw Rollins had 13 points and five rebounds...
Gabe Kirk was the last Ram in double figures with 10 points...Kyle Riddley led the Pride with 27 points.
For his stellar play throughout the tournament
Micah Banks was named to the All-Classic team. Banks had 33 points over the two games.
Columbia International will have the week off before they are back in action next Saturday when they host Toccoa Falls College at 3 p.m.
