Rams Fight but Warriors Win the Battle
The Columbia International University men's basketball team has been playing quality opponents over the last couple games and today was no different. The Rams made the trip to Central, SC to take on NCAA Division II Southern Wesleyan Warriors. The game was back and forth throughout a majority of the game, but a late Warriors run sank the Rams as the Warriors won 70-58.
The Warriors would score on their first possession, but their lead was short lived as the Rams would score on a three from
Juraj Rovis. Over the next minute and a half the teams would struggle with turnovers and missed shots, but finally at the 17:31 mark
Kameron Robinson would get the Rams back on the board. The Warriors would then tie the game at five just over two minutes later. The Warriors would then take the lead, but the Rams fought and never let the Warriors grab a big lead. With just under five minutes left to play in the half the Rams were able to cut the lead to five thanks to a three point lay by
Jacob Cook. The Warriors would increase the lead to seven before the teams went into halftime, with the score 31-24.
Coming out of the half the Warriors would stretch their lead to double digits. After the Warriors pushed it to thirteen,
Damian Hurta would then take a three, but he was fouled on his shot and awarded three free throw. Hurta would step to the line and sink all three. Hurta wasn't done yet as he hit a three on the Rams next possession.
Jordan Dillingham helped the Rams trim the lead to five after a fastbreak layup and forced the Warriors to take a timeout. Coming out of the timeout the Warriors would hold onto their lead, but a three from
Tyrone Dantzler Jr. trimmed the deficit to three. The Rams continued their 10-0 and took a five point lead after a three from Kameron Robinson. However, the Warriors would take their lead back, but the Rams would keep it close. Over the last five minutes the Warriors would push their lead to double figures and sink the Rams.
Columbia International shot 31.8% (21-66) from the field, while Southern Wesleyan 39.3% (24-61)...The Rams continued their hot shooting from the free throw line as they shot 83.3% from the stripe...The Rams had two players reach double figures as Kameron Robinson had 13 points, while
