Bears Outlast Rams

Box Score

The Columbia International University men's basketball team welcomed Truett-McConnell as the Rams looked to get back in the win column. The teams would battle, but a key run in the second half would propel the Bears past the Rams, 75-65. With the loss the Rams fall to 6-12 on the season, while the Bears move to 11-11.

The Rams came storming out of the gate to open the game on an impressive 15-4 run just six minutes in. Over the next two and a half minutes the Rams would go cold and the Bears would heat up to cut the lead to five. The two teams would continue to battle, but the Rams would continue to struggle a little as the Bears clawed back into the game to tie it at twenty with six minutes left in the half. Over a minute later the Bears would take their first lead, but that was short lived as Damian Hurta would give the Rams the lead back after a three. After a back and forth battle and numerous lead changes the Rams would tie the game at 33 after a jumper from Jordan Dillingham with just four second remaining in the half, but the Bears were able to get one last shot off and take a 35-33 lead into the half.

The Rams would come out a little slow in the second half and the Bears would take advantage of that going on a 10-2 run in the first three minutes. The Rams would try to fight back, but that run was a key in the game as the Rams would cut the lead to single digits multiple times just to see the Bears take a double digit lead again. The Bears would push their lead as high as 14 on multiple occasions, but the Rams never stopped fight as they tried to get back in the game. However, the Bears would hold onto their lead for the whole second half and win 75-65.

"Overall we executed well on defense as we held their top scorer to zero points," said Coach Marshall Tague. "Their run to start the second half really hurt us and we had trouble recovering from that, but other than that it was a pretty even game. Jordan with 17 was key for us tonight as he hit threes and drove to the basket. We have a big game with Bob Jones on Friday in Greenville so we will take the positives from this game and move onto our big game on Friday."

The Rams will travel to Greenville, SC to take on Bob Jones. The game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m.
