Rams Squeak Past Eagles

Box Score

Coming into Tuesday's game the women's soccer team was looking to run their winning streak to three games. The Rams did just that as they beat the Eagles of Toccoa Falls College 1-0. With the win the Rams move to 5-2-1, while the Eagles drop to 2-7-2.

The Rams and Eagles both were trying to catch their footing in the first ten minutes of the game as the only action was an offsides against the Rams. The Rams were able to get the first shot of the game as Janie Hollands shot when wide, but the Rams would continue to take shots and get a few corners. The Rams couldn't find the back of the net until there were four seconds left in the first half. The Rams were able to get a corner with eleven seconds left and as the ball bounced around it found the foot of Naomi Reed who was able to give the Rams a lead going into the half.

The second half was more of the same as the Rams were able to take six shots compared to the Eagles one shot. Even though the Rams took six shots they were not able to find that key second goal. Even without the second goal the Rams were still able to keep the Eagles of the board and take a 1-0 victory.

The Rams had 11 shots with 5 being on goal...Naomi Reed had the lone goal for the Rams which was her first of the season...Five Rams had at least two shots.

"Every game is a learning opportunity. We moved the ball well in the first half, but began to lose our focus in the second. Toccoa Falls came out very strong in the second half and we struggled to find our game again. Our focus is to continue to work for each other and the Lord as we prepare for Chowan on Saturday," said Coach Kara Farnsworth.

In other news the women were once again ranked in the NCCAA National Poll as they came in at number ten this week. This is the second time this season that the Rams were ranked by the NCCAA.

The Rams will travel to Murfreesboro, NC on Saturday to take on Chowan at 2 p.m. The link to live video, audio, and stats can be found on the CIU Athletics website.
