Rams Run Past Crusaders

After dropping a hard fought game on Saturday the women's soccer team was back in action tonight. The Rams hosted the Crusaders of North Greenville University a NCAA DII school. The Rams came out strong tonight scoring three goals on their way to winning 3-1. With the win the Rams move to 3-2-1, while the Crusaders drop to 1-5.

The Rams came out of the gate strong and were consistently in the offensive zone. The Rams struck first as they were able to get a goal from Alanna Battermann as the ball deflected of a Crusader defender. The Rams continued to play in the offensive zone, but were unable to get any shots off. The Crusaders took their first shot of the game at the 11:33 mark as Sam Wammock came up with a big save to keep the Crusaders scoreless. Each team would take one shot over the next 22 minutes. The Rams then struck again as Naomi Reed was able to get a pass to Battermann who was able to place the ball perfectly in the bottom right corner to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. The Rams would take the two goal lead in halftime.

The Crusaders came out of halftime trying to chip away at the Rams two goal lead. At the 48:28 mark the Crusaders were able to a goal to knock the Rams lead down to 1. The Crusaders continued to put the pressure on the Rams as they kept pushing for the tying goal. Wammock and the back line were huge for the Rams and didn't want to see their lead go away. The Rams were only able to get two shots of in the second half, but with her third goal of the game at the 81:05 mark Battermann was able to put the game away as the Rams went on to win 3-1.

Coach Kara Farnsworth had this to say on the game, "With a tough loss against USC-Beaufort this past weekend, it was great to come out tonight and get a win. We really wanted to focus on playing together tonight and with North Greenville possessing the ball very well it forced us to stay compact defensivley and work as a team. With a great team effort, Alanna was able to find the back of net."

The Rams were not able to get many shots off tonight, but the shots they got off they put them on goal as all five shots they had were on goal...Battermann led the Rams with her three goals...Reed was able to pick up an assist on Battermann's second goal...With her three goals Battermann sets a new program record for the most individual goals against in a game...Wammock had six saves tonight to help preserve the victory.

The Rams will be back in action on Saturday as they host Montreat College at 5 p.m.
