Box Score After playing on Saturday the Columbia International University women's soccer team was back in action against rival Bob Jones University. The Rams and Bruins battled for all 90 minutes, but in the end it was the Bruins who were victorious 1-0. With the loss the Rams drop to 5-7-3 on the season, while the Bruins move to 12-6.
The Rams came out looking to get on the board early as they had three corner kicks and one shot in the first 13 minutes. All the corners and the one shot were taking by Sotiria Tsilionis, but she was unable to pick up a goal or assist and the score remained tied at 0-0. At the 18:03 mark the Bruins got on the board as they were able to sneak a ball past Sam Wammock and take 1-0 lead. The Rams were only able to get one more shot in the half.
At halftime of the game the Columbia International University soccer field was dedicated and named Sessions Field. Mrs. Sessions was a key figure in helping get sports for CIU and also help with the funds for our soccer field.
The Rams were given a golden opportunity to tie the game at the 62:42 mark as they were awarded a penalty kick. Naomi Reed stepped up to take the kick. As she shot to her left the goalkeeper for the Bruins had the same thought and dove to make the save and keep the Bruins in front. The Rams would get one more shot on goal with a minute left, but when the horn sounded it was the rival Bruins who walked off the field with the victory.
The Rams had 5 shots, with 4 being on goal...Reed led the Rams will two shots on goal, while two others had one...Wammock had four saves.
Coach Kara Farnsworth had this to say on the game, "I'm very proud of the girls and their tenacity tonight. Playing on homecoming weekend, our pregame devotional was on legacy. What's our legacy? We as a team set out to honor the Lord in the way we play, our passion, our heart for our teammates, and our hard work. We continued to build our legacy tonight. We are looking forward to our rematch against Bob Jones next week.
The Rams will travel to Bob Jones on November 10 for a 7:30 p.m. game.
