Box Score The Columbia International University men's soccer team traveled to Franklin Springs, GA to take part in the NCCAA South Region Tournament. The Rams faced off against the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University in the semi-finals. The Rams and Warriors battled throughout, but a goal in the overtime period lifted the Warriors to a 1-0 victory.
The Warriors were the first team to get a shot off as they were able to test goalkeeper Luke Brooks five minutes into the game, but Brooks was up to the challenge. The Rams would get their first shot off at the 15:31 mark when Paul Grandacarpio got a shot on goal. Each team would continue to battle as they were looking for the goal to take an advantage into the break, but the game would remain scoreless as the teams went into halftime.
The second half continued to be a battle as each team was looking to advance to the championship game. The Rams Graham Jermstad was able to get a shot off in at 51:56, but a defensive save kept the Rams off the scoreboard. The teams would go back and forth exchanging shots, but neither team could find a weak spot past the goalkeepers so the game would go into overtime.
The Warriors would be the first team to get a shot off in the overtime period, but the Rams would push it down the field as Jermstad was able to get a shot off on goal for the Rams. Just three minutes later the Warriors would be attacking and come up with the lone and decisive goal of the game. The Warriors won the game 1-0 and move on to the championship game against Emmanuel College.
The Rams were able to register nine shots, with five of them being on goal...Brooks was big for the Rams as he had three saves and a huge one on a 1-1 in the first half...Grandacarpio led the Rams with five shots...The Rams fell to the Warriors early in year, 6-2.
The Rams placed two players on the all-tournament team after the game. Agustin Arce-Ruiz and Guillermo Arce-Ruiz were the two Rams named to the team. They have been steady contributors for the Rams all year as they were in this game as well.
The Rams finish their season with a record of 5-13-1. The Rams will look to build off of their strong showings in the latter half of the season as they enter spring practice and their season next year.
