Rams Stumble Against Bears

The Columbia International men's soccer team was able to escape the rain of Hurricane Matthew as they traveled to Cleveland, GA to take on Truett-McConnell University. The Rams were able to get on the board against the Bears, but the Bears would beat the Rams, 4-2. The Rams drop to 5-8 on the year, while the Bears move to 6-6.

The Bears were able to get the first shot of the game, but Luke Brooks was there to make the save. The Rams were awarded a corner kick at the seven minute mark, but were not able to generate any offense off of it. The Bears scored the first goal of the game off a free kick. The Bears would continue to attack the Rams, but a couple blocked shots and saves from Brooks kept the Rams in striking distance. The Rams would get their first goal in the thirty-ninth minute as the Bears would allow an own goal. The Rams would have a chance to take a lead into the half as Nolan Dorton was able to take a shot off a corner, but his shot would clank of the post. The Rams and Bears would go into the half tied at one.

The Rams would come out attacking in the second half as Graham Jermstad was able to get off two shots in just over a minute and a half, but one would be saved and the other would go wide. At the fifty-four minute mark the Bears would pick up their second goal of the game and restore their one goal lead. Just under seven minutes after their second goal. The Bears would pick up their fourth goal just before the seventy minute mark. However, the Rams did not give up as they were able to score their second goal of the game as Dorton was able to cross the ball into Zach Wolfenden who was able to one touch it past the keeper. The Rams would fall by the final of 4-2.

The Rams were able to get four shots on goal...Wolfenden led the Rams with his goal as Dorton picked up the assist...Brooks had five saves, while Jacob Rechenbach had three.

The Rams will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday as they will host Bluefield College at 7 p.m.
