Rams Battle it Out For 110 Minutes

Box Score

After playing their first three games of October on the road the women's soccer team returned home to face Bluefield College. This game was a battle of the Rams as both teams are named the Rams. Neither team was able to gain an edge over the other as the teams battled to a 0-0 tie after 110 minutes. With the tie the CIU Rams move to 5-5-2, while the Bluefield Rams move to 4-9-1.

CIU was the first team to get a shot off as Sotiria Tsilionis had her shot saved by the Bluefield Rams goalie. The Bluefield Rams had the next couple shots in the game, but Sam Wammock would come up with some key saves. In the 18th and 20th minute CIU's Angela McMaster would get some great shots off, but just couldn't find the back of the net. Bluefield would get a corner kick in the 24th minute, but the rest of the half was back and forth with not shots. The teams would head into the half scoreless.

Bluefield would come out looking to gain an edge over CIU as they had numerous shots and corner kicks, but they couldn't figure out a way to get the ball past Wammock. CIU would then turn up the intensity and take over the second half as they would have some great shots on goal. The two best chances came when Alanna Battermann was able to break past the defense, but her shot when just wide. CIU had an amazing chance to put the first score on the board as McMaster was fouled in the box and given a penalty kick. She stepped up for the penalty kick with just four minutes remaining, but the goalie was able to guess correctly the direction of the shot and came up with a huge save. The teams would head to overtime.

The first overtime saw CIU get two great shots on goal, but just as in the first and second half they just couldn't find the back of the net. After being scoreless through 100 minutes the teams would have to play another 10. In the second overtime neither team was able to score and the game ended in a scoreless tie.

CIU had 12 shots with 10 being on goal...McMaster and Abby Martin led CIU with three shots each on goal...Wammock was a force in goal for the Rams as she had five saves.

The Rams will have off this weekend for fall break, but they will be back in action on Monday the 17th as they travel just down the street to take on Columbia College for a 7 p.m. game.
