COLUMBIA, S.C. — CIU women's basketball dropped an 82–62 decision to Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon in Appalachian Athletic Conference play at the Moore Fitness Center.
The Bulldogs set the tone early, using a strong shooting first quarter to take a 22–17 lead and then pulling away with a decisive second period, outscoring CIU 18–9 to carry a 40–26 advantage into halftime. CIU showed improved rhythm coming out of the break, scoring 20 points in the third quarter, but Tennessee Wesleyan answered with timely perimeter shooting to keep control.
Katie Johnson led CIU with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, adding three assists. Selah George followed with 11 points and six rebounds, while Katlynn Chinn added 10 points and four assists. Jerchel Geathers-Washington chipped in six points and six rebounds, and Magdalena Mihaljevic added six points, converting 4-of-5 free throws.
CIU finished with 32 rebounds and forced 13 turnovers, but Tennessee Wesleyan shot efficiently throughout the contest and built its lead to as many as 23 in the second half.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, Jan. 24, hosting the University of Pikeville at 2:00 p.m. ET.
