Rams grind out tough overtime win over TFC

TOCCOA FALLS, Ga. — CIU women's basketball picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday evening, outlasting Toccoa Falls 61–59 in overtime in an NCCAA matchup on the road.

The victory marked the Rams' first of the 2025–26 campaign as they moved to 1–4 overall, while Toccoa Falls dropped to 2–5.

In a game that featured five lead changes and four ties, CIU rallied from an eight-point deficit late in the second quarter. The Rams used a strong third period — outscoring the Eagles 21–16 — to regain momentum and forced overtime after the game was tied 53–53 at the end of regulation.

Katie Johnson led CIU with 16 points and 11 rebounds, recording a double-double in 41 minutes of play. Katlynn Chinn added 10 points and four assists, while Audrey Teasley scored nine points on 4-of-11 shooting. Magdalena Mihaljevic contributed nine points off the bench, and Sian Banks and Selah George each chipped in five.

The Rams dominated the boards with a 58–56 rebounding advantage, including 19 offensive rebounds that led to 11 second-chance points. CIU's defense forced 25 turnovers and converted them into 16 points.

In overtime, CIU sealed the win behind key baskets from Johnson, Banks and Mihaljevic before Jerchel Geathers-Washington sank two free throws with two seconds left to put the Rams ahead for good.

CIU returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 15, traveling to face Pikeville on the road at 2 p.m. ET.
