GRAYSON, Ky. - CIU women's basketball faced their second road challenge of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) regular season on Saturday as CIU fell to Kentucky Christian 75-62. The Rams were in striking distance several times throughout the contest but were unable to secure their first conference win.
The game was tight early, with CIU trailing 18-15 at the 2:20 mark in the first quarter. However, the Knights closed the period on a 9-0 run and led 24-15 after one. Six points would come by way of freshman Katlynn Chinn in the second, but the Knights extended the lead to 13 (42-29) at the break.
Both teams would score 33 second-half points as the Rams got ten out of Mariah Leinbach in the final 20 minutes, as KCU would hold the 13-point lead for the remainder of the game.
Both Leinbach and Chinn scored 12 points on the afternoon. Irene Were and Madison Hatcher each scored in double-figures as well, with Hatcher posting ten and Were tallying 11. Were and Leinbach totaled eight rebounds a piece, while Hatcher hit two triples.
