CLINTON, S.C. - CIU women's basketball hit the court for the first time under the leadership of first-year head coach Mark Molder. CIU was on the road to take on fellow NCCAA member Clinton College (S.C.). The Rams led by one heading into the final period, but they could not hold onto this lead and fell 88-65.
Game Summary: The Rams faced a slow start in the first quarter, managing just nine points with freshman Katlynn Chinn recording CIU's first points of the game on a jumper. However, CIU found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring the Golden Bears 18-14 to narrow the gap to 35-27 at the half.
CIU turned up the heat in the third quarter, posting an impressive 21 points, with Bethany Rymer leading the charge with 14. A free throw from Rymer gave the Rams a 48-47 lead, setting them up with momentum going into the final quarter. Despite entering the last period ahead, CIU was limited to 15 points and ultimately fell to the Golden Bears 78-65.
The Rams shot 40.4% from the field and 69.0% from the free-throw line. Rymer led the team with a standout performance of 27 points and seven rebounds, while Madison Hatcher contributed 11 points. Chinn added to the effort with a team-high five assists.
