CIU Rocket League Blue vs. William Peace University
CIU Rocket League Blue fell to WPU on Monday night in their first playoff game of the season. After a hard regular season, CIU Rocket League Blue arrived at playoffs with renewed vigor, having performed at their highest level yet in scrimmages in the weeks leading up to this match. In the end, WPU would overtake the Rams in a 4-0 sweep in a Best of 7 match. Rocket League Blue has shown a strong mental fortitude throughout the difficulties of this season and are continuing to showcase the hunger needed to refine areas of weakness. Of all the teams in the CIU Esports Program, Rocket League Blue has showcased the most heart and they are primed for a great Spring 2023 season. Great work this season, CIU Rocket League Blue!
CIU Overwatch Gold vs. Iowa State University
CIU Overwatch Gold fell to Iowa State in their first playoff game of the season on Tuesday night. Iowa State seeded 7th in playoffs, with CIU seeding 10th, so the match was expected to be action-packed. There were several hard-won fights along the way, and one or two notable full party wipes in CIU's favor. In the end Iowa State would win the Best of 5 series 3-1, bringing the Fall 2023 season to an end for CIU Overwatch Gold. The Rams came into playoffs undefeated with a 7-0 record, having not lost a single map in the regular season so we are hopeful for a similar performance in Spring of 2023 as CIU Overwatch Gold prepares for another great season. Great work, team!
CIU Rams Smash vs. Brewton-Parker College
CIU Rams Smash won their first round playoff game on Thursday night against BPC 2-0. They finished the first match with 4 stock remaining, and then the second match with 6 stock remaining, finishing off BPC's K. Rool player with dramatic "falcon punch!" from Team Captain, Erik Wisotsky; a punch that will no-doubt be talked about for years to come. CIU's first ever Smash team finished the regular season with a 4-3 record and now moves to the second round of playoffs to be held the week following Thanksgiving. Great work, CIU Rams Smash!
CIU Rams Smash competes in the NACE Varsity Plus division, where they'll compete against a variety of schools all over North America. Matches are held every Thursday night at 7:00pm ET and are broadcasted on Twitch with shout casting provided by Head Coach Chris Johnson.
