BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - For much of CIU women's basketball's contest with Union College (Ky.) on Monday, it appeared if the Rams would extend their four-game win streak to five. However, it was not meant to be as a furious comeback by the Bulldogs put an end to the Ram's consecutive victories. CIU (13-14, 11-11 AAC) was upended by Union (17-10, 12-9 AAC) by a score of 79-71 as the Bulldogs avenged a loss to the Rams from back in November.
The Rams trailed after the first period but exploded for a 27-point second quarter outscoring Union by 13 in the ten minutes before the break. Madison Hatcher had ten of those 27-second quarter points on her way to helping CIU to a 40-33 halftime advantage.
The game's turning point came in the second half. With the Rams up 59-52 and 9:23 left in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs closed the game on a 27-12 run to defeat CIU 79-71.
Freshman Madison Hatcher led CIU in scoring with 22 points knocking down four threes. Zion Neat hit four 3-pointers of her own on her way to a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Hatcher's fellow freshman Zhani Thompson had a productive game as the CIU big scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds.
