Women's Basketball falls to Thomas in 2022 finale

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – CIU women's basketball hit the road on Thursday afternoon to take on Thomas (Ga.) for their final contest of the year. The Rams faced off against the Night Hawks earlier this season and were victorious. CIU's offense was not as strong tonight, as they fell 64-51 to Thomas. The Rams are now 6-8 on the season.

CIU took the lead less than a minute into the game with a jumper from Zhani Thompson, who would score the first eight points for the Rams. CIU was dominant in the first, shooting 50% from the field and holding the Night Hawks to nine points. The second quarter was low scoring from both sides, but CIU was up 29-19 going into the half.

Somarian Webb helped extend the Rams' lead early in the third, but CIU's success waned on both sides of the court. Their field goal percentage dropped to 33.3%, and the Rams gave up the ball six times in the third quarter. CIU trailed 42-40 going into the fourth. The final quarter of the game looked a lot like the third, as the Rams continued to struggle to find the bottom of the net. Thomas outscored CIU 22-11 in the fourth to come out on top.

Despite a low-scoring game from the Rams, Thompson was able to collect another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jaylyn Twitty was impressive off the bench, shooting 5-of-9 (55.6%) from the field with 12 points. Tearra Cook remains a consistent offensive threat scoring ten points against the Night Hawks.

As a team, CIU went 20-of-58 (34.5%) from the field as opposed to Thomas' 21-of-64 (32.8%); however, the Rams' came up short on the glass. CIU was outrebounded 41-46 and turned the ball over 23 times.

Up Next: CIU will pick back up in 2023 with another AAC game against Truett McConnell University. They will start the new year at home on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 2:00 PM.
