KINGSPORT, Tenn. - CIU women's basketball wrapped up play at NAIA "The Show" on Saturday with a matchup versus Rochester (Mich.). CIU entered the contest coming off a tough overtime loss the day before but was unable to bounce back, falling to the Warriors by a score of 89-56. Notably, CIU was missing several contributors, including second-leading scorer
Tearra Cook. The Rams move to 3-5 on the season with the setback.
The Rams hung close with the Warriors through the first period and would close out the quarter with a layup from
Jaylyn Twitty, cutting into the Warriors' lead, making the score 20-16. The Rams struggled in the second quarter, however, as they were outscored by 12, falling behind 51-35 at the break.
Both teams struggled offensively in the third, but the Rams had a particularly hard time finding the bucket, only scoring four points in the third period. The Rams were able to find more offense in the fourth, thanks to five points from
Mariah Leinbach, but it was not enough as CIU succumbed to the Warriors 89-56.
Hannah Wilkerson was the only player in double-figures with ten points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Hannah Trawick stepped up for CIU, scoring eight points and pulling down three rebounds. The rest of the box score was highlighted by balanced scoring, with four players chipping in six points each. Turnovers were the Rams' Achilles heel, with the CIU committing a season-high 33 giveaways.
Up Next: CIU will be back at home on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 PM to take on Brenau (Ga.).
