Rams take home Competitors Cup
GREENVILLE, S.C.- The CIU men's golf team traveled to the upstate to play in the Bob Jones Competitor's Cup. Unlike previous competitions, the tournament would be in a match play format, similar to the Ryder Cup. CIU played two rounds of golf, fourball in the morning, and alternating shot in the afternoon, with each match being worth one point. The Rams would have a solid day on the course, winning 8.5 points, to Bob Jones 1.5.

Results:
Out of 10 total points that we're able to be scored on day one, the Rams would take home 8.5. Through two rounds, CIU won all pairings except for two, with a halve and a true loss. The white-hot Rams head into the final round tomorrow, with a commanding lead over the Bruins, poised to take home the competitor's cup.

Head Coach Tucker MacDonald said this about the teams performance today, "Matchplay events are always fun. Really proud of how the guys finished their matches. I am looking forward to another good day tomorrow." Senior golfer Jake Montgomery had an up and down day but pointed toward his teammates for the success for the day saying, " I didn't have my best stuff today, but I was able to get the job done in both matches by winning 2 & 1."

The Rams look to finish off a great start to the week tomorrow, taking home the win against upstate rival Bob Jones.

Round Two

The final round held on Tuesday, April 6th, featured a final 18 hole competition between individuals. The 1v1 format, pittied golfers from each team against one another in a head-to-head match-up. After a big first day, CIU looked to hold its commanding lead and finish the tournament strong with a win.

Results
The Rams won five matches and lost four on the final day. Senior Jake Montgomery won his head to head against Haddon Wiginton, giving CIU additional points toward their score. Another notable win was from Brody Istace, who sank a birdie on the final hole to secure victory for CIU. Bryce Allen, Ben Harvey, and Bryson MacDonald would all win their matches, giving CIU a convincing 13.5 to 5.5 win over the Bruins.

What Coach MacDonald is saying:
"Jake did a great job winning the first match and setting the tone for the day. I was proud of the way the guys battled till the end. Brody had a clutch birdie on the last hole to clinch the competitor's cup. This was an excellent event for our guys, and hopefully, we can take advantage of this momentum going into the conference championship."
