Men's Track & Field adds to AAC history books at conference championships
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Day two of the Appalachian Athletic Conference championships saw CIU's men's track and field team find success as they hosted the meet.
John Hunter James led CIU in the pole vault as he won his first AAC Outdoor Pole Vault Championship after picking up the last two AAC Indoor Pole Vault Championships. James vaulted a height of 5.00m for the victory. James' teammate
Blake Rimmer found himself on the podium as well as he came in third in the pole vault with a height of 4.60m.
On the track,
Josh Ford snagged his PR in the 400m hurdles while several of his teammates competed in the 4x400 relay.
Clayton Hammonds,
Malik Beaver,
Ethan Robinson, and Tavarress Berrian made up the relay team finishing with a competitive time of 3:27.69.
However, the highlight of the meet came from racewalker
Brandon Bacon. The freshman absolutely demolished the conference record in the men's racewalk by over six minutes with a time of 23:09.67 on his way to a conference championship. Bacon's fellow racewalker
Nathaniel Wilburn set AAC records of his own, coming in second behind Bacon with a time of 25:59.73.
"The men did really well today," said Head Coach
Jud Brooker. "The guys fought through some injuries to compete hard."
