MONTREAT, N.C. – One week removed from the CIU Rams College Invitational, the CIU men's track and field team traveled to the mountainous region of North Carolina for the Montreat College Invitational. The meet was highlighted by racewalker Brandon Bacon who qualified for the A standard for the NAIA National Championships with a time of 23:23.47 in the 5000m racewalk. Bacon is the first A standard NAIA qualifier for the Rams this season outside of pole vaulter John Hunter James.

CIU found more success in the field as Johnathan Hicks qualified for the NCCAA Championships with a mark of 40.04m in the hammer throw.

Blake Rimmer set the school record in the javelin at 41.17m which is 5th best in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

On the track, CIU was represented by Josh Ford, who PR'd in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.95. Ford's teammates Tavarres Berrian and Malik Beaver were solid as well. Berrian had a time 1:59.61 in the 800, coming in 14th out of 61, while Beaver finished at 2:04.12 in the 800. Beaver doubled up competing in the 1500 with a time of 4:21.56.
