COLUMBIA, S.C -The CIU women's basketball team has already had their fair share of ups and downs in January, and the Rams had another challenging contest on Tuesday. Unfortunately, CIU took a lump as the Rams lost to Point University for the second time this season. The loss came on the Rams home floor this time around by a score of 68-51.
How It Happened:
First Half: PU 30 CIU 20:Â The Rams struggled offensively in the first quarter, only mustering six points in the opening period. Behind scores from a multitude of players, CIU was able to keep the score within 10-points trailing 30-20 going into the half. Both Keniah Watkins and Jordin McQueen had five points to lead the Rams in the first half.
Second Half PU 68 CIU 51: CIU got as close 32-24 early in the half, but that was the smallest the deficit shrunk for the game's remainder. Point pulled away to start the 4th quarter and never looked back, dispatching CIU 68-51. Zion Neat and Jordan Sprueill got going in the final two quarters as each player scored eight second half points.
Game Notes:
- Despite a poor shooting night, freshman standout Zion Neat still recorded a double-double with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks.
- Jordan Sprueill was also impressive as the Charleston native scored 12 points, had five rebounds, and 2 blocks.
- Jordin McQueen was the Rams third-leading scorer with nine points and four boards.Â
- Turnovers proved to be the Ram's downfall as CIU totaled 27 on the evening.Â
What Coach Danielle Fleming is saying:
"We have to take care of the ball better; it is nearly impossible to win a game with as many turnovers as we had tonight".
