Bluefield, VA – The CIU women's basketball team played their final game of the regular season Saturday as they traveled to Virginia to take on Bluefield College. While neither team qualified for the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament this year, the game was hard-fought from the tip.
How It Happened:
First Half CIU 31 BC 28: The Rams received a solid first quarter out of both Tiona Walls and Jordan Spruiell. The pair combined for 10-points in the opening period to help CIU take an 18-13 lead. Hannah Trawick helped keep CIU in front in the second quarter scoring on back to back possessions to give the Rams the 28-24 advantage. Kiara Austin then drilled a three to give the Rams a 31-28 lead going into halftime.
Second Half BC 68 CIU 57: Trawick started the half for CIU with a four-point run, which would help the Rams to a 47-44 lead after three. The fourth quarter proved to be the turning point in the game as CIU was outscored 24-10 in the final period and fell 68-57.
Game Notes:
- Alexis Ross led the Rams in scoring with 11 points knocking down two three-pointers.
- Hannah Trawick had 9p oints and 4 rebounds for CIU.
- Tiona Walls capped off a solid freshman year with a 6 point 8 rebound performance.
- The Rams outrebounded Bluefield 38-35 while also picking up 8 steals.
