College of Coastal Georgia Invite Full Recap
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The CIU men's golf team teed off at its final tournament of 2020 at the College of Coastal Georgia Invite. The Rams are hot off of a 3rd place finish at the NCCAA Championship tournament; their highest ever finish in that event. Coach MacDonald and company hope to end 2020 on a positive note by placing in the top three in what looks to be a competitive tournament.

The tournament is held at Sea Palms Resort. A George Cobb design, the course plays at par 71. With narrow fairways and thick rough, the course presents a challenge to golfers, forcing most players to be accurate off the tee.

Day One
Day one consisted of two rounds of golf. This isn't unfamiliar territory for the Rams, as they played in the Music City invite this month, where they played three rounds over two days. Despite having experience in this situation, the Rams placed 9th overall, shooting 308 in round one, and 310 in round two.

The team was led by none other than Jake Montgomery, after shooting 76 in both rounds. CJ Clarkson followed up Montgomery with a 75 in the first round and a 78 in the second. Brody Istace placed 3rd on the team, shooting 79 in the first, and improving slightly in the second with a 75. Darren Scott placed 4th, shooting 81 in the first and making up ground with a 76 in the second. Lastly, Ben Harvey rounded out the group at 89 in the first and 81 in the second.

What Coach MacDonald is Saying:
"I thought the team hit the ball much better than their scores showed today. Sea Palms golf course has a lot of penalty areas, so the key is ball placement. The seniors, CJ and Jake, did a great job of keeping a positive attitude. Thirty-six holes are challenging because it tests your mental game along with your physical game. We have 18 more holes left to play, and I think the guys will respond well to the challenge tomorrow."

Day Two
CIU looked to climb the leaderboard on day two of the College of Coastal Georgia Invite, after placing 9th through the first two rounds. After a day, one that consisted of 36 holes, the team welcomed the third and final round of 18 on the tournament on Tuesday. Despite a solid day on the course, the Rams could not make up ground from day one results and finished the tournament in 9th place.

Jake Montgomery again led the Rams during round three, shooting 70, one under par. CJ Clarkson, who had an impressive first two rounds, finished well, shooting 74, three over par. Bryson MacDonald finished 3rd overall on the team during the third round, shooting 80. Brody Isctace and Ben Harvey finished with an 82 and 87 to round out the final tournament of 2020 for CIU.
